This project was all about retrofitting IoT capabilities to a legacy device!
The project’s mission was to convert a manually coin-operated K-Cup® vending machine (think “gumball machine”) to an internet-enabled device capable of accepting chip card-based payments and automated dispensing.
This project was comprised of hardware and software design with these special challenges:
• fitting all electronics into the existing footprint of the machine’s base
• fitting all user controls and the display into the same footprint of the legacy manually-operated coin mechanism
Another feature of this project is that the machine supports two internet connectivity options: cellular modem and Wi-Fi.
